*The Kona Coast has the some of the calmest water in the state of Hawaii however, swimming with wild dolphins is an experience in an unprotected open ocean setting. You should not participate in this tour if you do not have at least basic swimming skills, are uncomfortable in the water, or have never snorkeled before.
Swimming with wild spinner dolphins is an experience that must be built on mutual respect and consideration of the well being of both the animals and the environment. Also realistic expectations of wild animal encounters are expected. This isn’t a tank at sea world! All dolphin swim tours we recommend are committed to the health and safety of both the animals and our guests. These are wild animals and we rely on their cooperation, although very uncommon, there is always a chance that the dolphins are simply not around or interested in playing that day. Unfortunately, no one can offer a guarantee they will cooperate every single day. There is also the chance the Captain and/or crew of the vessel will deem swimming with the dolphins unsafe. Fighting mother nature is never a good idea! In this case observing the dolphins from the boat is still an experience you’ll never forget.
Ali’i Ocean Tours
Get the best of both worlds starting with an exhilarating swim alongside Kona’s own Hawai’ian spinner dolphins then enjoy a relaxing snorkel in Kealakekua Bay, home of the Captain Cook Monument. This is definitely a 5 star tour. Top notch service and a recently updated vessel make for a dolphin experience you’ll never forget.
Why we love these guys:
Everything you need is already provided: food, drinks, towels, sunscreen and snorkel gear, these dudes do it right. Luxury at it’s best.
Snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay is on the agenda after swimming with the dolphins. However, due to the unpredictable location of wild dolphins, an alternate snorkel location may need to be substituted. Basically, it’s up to the dolphins!
Sea Quest Rafting Adventures
Pods of potentially hundreds of Hawaiian spinner dolphins can be found off of the Kona Coast every day. These dolphins definitely live up to their name with their acrobatic above water spins and flips. Observe these playful dolphins in their natural habitat and, if the conditions are right, join them in the water and have the experience of a lifetime. After an incredible dolphin experience you’ll snorkel a pristine coral reef full of colorful fish.
Cannot accept any participants with back or neck problems and pregnant women. Ages 10 and up only. You must be comfortable climbing a ladder to return to the boat after snorkeling.
Why we love these guys:
This is a great company run by great people. They’ve been doing it right for many, many years and know how to have a heck of a time while also being respectful of the animals and the environment. They get our vote of approval.
